NOVEMBER 11-15
ESPEN MALNUTRITION AWARENESS WEEK
During Malnutrition Awareness Week, ESPEN (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism) aims to raise global awareness of disease-related malnutrition and its impact on patient well-being and public health. The human rights-based approach to clinical nutrition is a strategy to raise awareness of the need for universal access to nutrition care.
The motto “All people should have access to food and evidence-based medical nutrition therapy” emphasizes the right to food and health. It is stated that people should have the right to access adequate food and freedom from hunger and malnutrition.
This year's World Food Day theme “Right to foods for a better life and a better future” set by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on October 16th is similarly focused on the right to food. It is stated that producing more food is not a solution, it is important to have access to sufficient, nutritious, diverse, safe, accessible and affordable food.
Within the scope of World Food Day, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics provided training to students. In this training, the right to food and sustainability issues were emphasized.
