Department Information

Maternal and neonatal follow-up during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Normally they can determine deviations and make normal births on their own responsibility. It is also about educating those who can use professional midwifery approaches in normal deviation situations.

Having basic knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies in line with the developments in the field of midwifery,having contemporary roles, able to make evidence-based practices, self-confident;

Having the ability to associate the basic knowledge gained from health, social and behavioral sciences with midwifery;

who can realize their professional practices and responsibilities in line with professional midwifery values ​​and ethical principles;

Can provide follow-up, training and consultancy services on women's and children's health;

able to monitor and evaluate mother / fetus / newborn during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period;

can perform individualized care of mother / fetus / newborn during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period, can take appropriate interventions in risky situations and refer when necessary;

Have effective communication, leadership and management skills within the healthcare team;

To raise midwives who are sensitive to health problems, have acquired lifelong learning behavior, and have professional career strategies.

Purpose of the Program: To train midwives who can make the impression of mother and newborn during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, identify deviations from normal and have normal births under their own responsibility, and also use professional midwifery approaches in cases of deviation from normal.

Program Goals:

1. To be able to have basic knowledge, skills, attitudes and competence in line with the developments in the field of midwifery, to have contemporary roles, to make evidence-based practices, to have self-confidence
2. To have the ability to associate the basic knowledge gained from health, social and behavioral sciences with midwifery
3. To be able to carry out professional practices and responsibilities in line with professional midwifery values ​​and ethical principles
4. To be able to provide follow-up, training and consultancy services on women's and children's health
5. To be able to monitor and evaluate mother/ fetus/ newborn during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period
6. To be able to provide individualized care of the mother/fetus/newborn during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period, to take appropriate interventions in risky situations, and to refer when necessary.
7. To have effective communication, leadership and management skills within the healthcare team

Learning Outcomes of the Program:

5. Carries out mother/fetus/newborn follow-up and applies evaluation services during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.
6.Performs individualized care of mother/fetus/newborn in pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Takes appropriate initiatives in risky situations and makes referrals when necessary.
7. Be sensitive to health problems. Gains lifelong learning behavior skills. Have professional career strategies.
8.Has effective communication, leadership and management skills within the healthcare team.
9. Plans and implements midwifery interventions suitable for internal and surgical problems.

10. Follows scientific researches in health, social and social sciences, interprets the results and uses them in midwifery practices.
11. Uses critical thinking, problem solving process, holistic approach, educational methods and techniques in midwifery practices.
12. Contributes to the formation of health policies, acts in accordance with its duties, authorities and responsibilities in accordance with legal regulations and takes responsibility in solving professional problems.
13. In midwifery practices, the community becomes sensitive to health problems at the regional and national level and contributes to increasing the level of health.
14. Provides training and consultancy services to individuals on reproductive health.

15.In addition to Turkish language, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a foreign language

Planning of a workshop for first-year midwifery students to remain open to learning, maintain inner balance, and explore themselves through artistic expressions in the face of challenges encountered in midwifery education. On May 8, 2025, a workshop titled "Birth to Self: A Journey of Self-Compassion Through Art" was held to introduce the concept of self-compassion to first-year midwifery students and to encourage them to express themselves artistically. Following a psychoeducation session on self-compassion delivered by Lecturer Sema Soysal, students engaged in poetry, painting, and collage activities aimed at enhancing their self-awareness. May 5 International Day of the Midwife Event As part of the May 5 International Day of the Midwife, a program was held in the backyard of the Faculty of Health Sciences, with participation from the academic staff and students. The event highlighted the vital role of the midwifery profession in healthcare services and emphasized professional solidarity. The opening speech was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ferdi Başkurt. Head of the Midwifery Department, Prof. Dr. Şükran Özkahraman Koç, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of the midwifery profession. The event concluded with a group photo. Evidence 
2024 Research Assistant Emine ALVER Conducting a Special “Maternal and Neonatal Resuscitation” Training for 3rd and 4th Year Midwifery Students The “Maternal and Neonatal Resuscitation” training, moderated by one of our department’s faculty members, Research Assistant Emine Alver, was held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM. The speakers of the training—Lecturer Ensar GÜNEY, Hasan Hüseyin DEMREN, and Lütfi Mert GÜLER, all experts in their fields—provided up-to-date information and raised awareness on key topics such as cardiac physiology and CPR, resuscitation during pregnancy, and neonatal resuscitation. Throughout the training, midwifery students had the opportunity to enhance both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills through hands-on activities. Evidence
